Facts and Questions
So much information goes into sessions. Not only to prepare you and the littles but myself as well! Here are some common questions that I get asked that I hope you find helpful.
How long do sessions last?
Newborn Sessions vary depending on which package you select. Average is 2-4 hours but overall it just depends on which package you pick and how sleepy baby is at the session.
Milestone session are on average 30 minutes long. I have found that at milestone ages that after about 30 minutes they are over us haha.
For more specific time frames please fill out the contact form for more information on the session you are interested in.
How much are sessions?
Baby Steps has multiple package options! please fill out the contact form for more information on the session you are interested in. You will automatically be emailed a copy of my package options and steps on how to move forward with booking.
When is the right time to book?
For expecting mother's and father's I recommend booking your newborn package around the end of your second trimester. Baby Steps secures your due date on the calendar to lock in your session after booking. Spots are very limited as I only take a certain number of sessions per month so I can fully focus on my clients.
Milestone sessions can be booked any time during your little one's first year. I highly recommend tummy time around 4 month and sitter sessions whenever baby becomes a strong independent sitter. If you are wanting photos back by a certain date be sure to book 3-4 weeks prior to that date to allow for editing time.
How do I book?
Once you are ready to book simply head on over to the contact tab and fill out the contact form. Once you have done so, you will recieve a couple of emails with more information on what to do next!
When will my newborn session take place?
After you are booked your due date goes into the calendar to hold your approximate session date. After your little bundle of joy is in your arms I ask that you notify me within 48 hours so I can get you an official date and time for your session. My main shooting days are Wednesday's and Thursdays starting at 10am. If you need another time due to work, etc. then please let me know prior to booking. I do my very best to be flexible but have limited weekend openings.
Do I get to choose what props are used?
Yes! If you have any requests for a specific prop you have seen in my work just let me know. I use custom questionnaire's to learn more about your likes and wants so I can be sure to have the props that mean the most to you ready for your little ones close up. Questionnaires are sent out after you fill out the contact from under the contact tab.
What if someone in the immediate family gets sick?
If you or any of your loved ones are feeling under the weather less than 24 hours prior to your shoot I ask that you notify me as soon as possible so we can get you rescheduled. My biggest concern is keeping me and all my little clients healthy.
What about hygiene and masks?
I make sure wear my mask when posing and photographing little ones along with regular hand washing and sanitizing. All props and common surfaces get sanitized between each session. I do however leave it up to parents if they want wear a mask during the session. Newborn shoots get quite warm and lengthy and completely leave that up to your decision.
What happens at a photoshoot?
Once you make your way past the signs in the front you will be at Baby Steps Studio. Once you arrive I start of be washing my hands thoroughly. Once you are settled into the studio, if you feel baby needs to eat to be fully settled go right ahead! Happy baby is worth all the waiting and I don't mind at all. For newborns I usually jump right into it if they are sleepy and ready to go. I will have lots of things set up based on your questionnaire answers and some time we make it through all of it and sometimes we don't. Babies are the boss at my sessions. For newborns I may ask you to feed baby more often at a session than you would normally need to due to wanting them to be nice and sleepy. Unless baby is unusually fussy I do my best to let parents sit back and watch the show! I do offer drinks in my little fridge if you need one along with items any new mother might need while being out with a little one. I have a changing table, newborn diapers and wipes if you are in need. If at any time during a session you see something in the studio that you are just dying to have used just let me know!
So the shoot is over, now what?
Once the session is over, the week following you will receive an email with your proofing gallery. From there you will be able to select which images you would like to come with your package. Each package comes with a set number and can be seen over at the investment tab. ;)
What is this proofing gallery you speak of?
Proofing galleries are online galleries hosted by Baby Steps with the very best from your little one's session. On average proofing galleries have about 2-3x the amount of photos that your session comes with but will vary depending on baby's participation level. haha. You may also choose any additional images at this time by adding them to your favorites and an invoice can be sent for the extras. The photos in these galleries are not finished works of art and are usually soft proofed which means they are lightly edited in my style. This gallery is active for 1 week. After you have finalized your selection and let me know via email or text, that's when I get to work on the final edits.
I'm done selecting my images, what's next?
After you are done selecting your images, I will get to work on the final edits that will result in your beautiful client gallery. Editing can take up to 3 weeks depending on how many images you have selected and varying busy times but average timeframe is 2 weeks. After editing is complete you will receive and email containing a new link with your finished gallery. Your gallery will remain active for 30 days and after that it is removed to make room for new sessions. If you need them to be put back up in the online gallery, a re-upload fee will apply.
